Martin McCarthy leading Ioana Nedelcu secure acquittal of main money laundering counts involving 5 million pounds at trial in absence
Martin and Ioana appeared for a Defendant charged with two money laundering conspiracies involving over £5 million, the proceeds from mandate and advance fee fraud . As the Defendant did not return to the UK from overseas throughout the proceedings, the judge ruled that the trial must proceed in her absence. After a 38 days trial, the Defendant, in spite of her absence, was unanimously acquitted of both money laundering conspiracies and a further conspiracy to defraud Amex. The Defendant was only convicted of a further count, that of defrauding Amex to the value of £47,000.
