Lyall Thompson secures acquittal for vulnerable young defendant charged with rape
Lyall was instructed to represent an 18 year old man with diagnoses of autism and ADHD charged with raping his girlfriend at the age of 16.
The case required sensitive cross-examination of the complainant and detailed analysis of TikTok and text messages which the prosecution claimed amounted to a confession.
The defendant gave evidence with the assistance of an intermediary. Following a five day trial, the jury returned a not guilty verdict in less than 90 minutes.
Lyall was greatly assisted by Aika Stephenson and Amour Haider from Just for Kids Law, who between them attended court on almost every day of the trial to assist counsel, the client and his family .
